Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. Human trafficking is where a person arranges or facilitates the travel of another person with a view to that person being exploited. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour, bonded and child labour and human trafficking.
Popcorn Learning Media is a provider of high-quality digital learning materials to a wide variety of clients who operate in differing fields in differing locations. We offer online learning solutions, provide a consultancy service and develop engaging, beautiful and relevant training material.
We believe transparency is the best way we can ensure that we are doing our best as an ethical business. Therefore, we have published our annual statement of slavery and human trafficking, made in compliance with section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, in which we explain how slavery and human trafficking can affect our business and the steps we are taking in the fight against it.
Popcorn Learning Media has its headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent (UK) and also operates out of Southampton (UK). We currently have 24 employees.
This past financial year ending 5th April 2020, we took the following key steps to ensure slavery and human trafficking did not occur within our organisation or supply chain.
Notably, we developed our Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking policy. It outlines our zero-tolerance position to accepting Slavery and Human trafficking within our organisation and are position regarding suppliers and contracting. It also sets out to improve the knowledge of our employees and details their part in fighting slavery and human trafficking. It reinforces our commitment to maintaining robust recruitment procedures which include assuring a valid right to work and employment contracts adhering to all relevant labour standard regulations.
Identifying and addressing risks
We set out to identify any possibility of slavery and human trafficking being present within Popcorn. We undertook a risk assessment and review of current policies, we also mapped our supply chain to see if further investigation was necessary. The results were that there was no evidence of slavery or human trafficking with the organisation or current supply chain.
As a business, we like to operate in an open and transparent manner and therefore actively welcome site visits, so any clients can meet the team, discuss their projects and see where we operate from.
Identifying and addressing risks
We have trained our employees so they have a high level of understanding about:
- The risks of slavery and human trafficking;
- The impact that it could have on the business;
- The steps are taken to ensure we comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015;
- How they can report any suspicions; and
- How it links to us operating as an ethical and socially aware business.
All relevant information regarding our policy around Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking is available to any client who requires it when ensuring their own supply chain meets current legal and best practice requirements.
